Morality and Relationships
Somebody asked me the other day how long I'm, married. After telling the person 20 years, she wanted to know how many extra-marital affairs and/or sexual experiences I had?
None (obviously), I replied! I was happy to say that I've been with one partner for all of my life, being my wife.
What shocked me about this seemingly innocent discussion, was the astonishment of the person. After a similar incident with another person, it came out that these
2 women (black) were amazed but also disgruntled about the unloyalty of their black counterparts. One didn't hesitate to say that its is general practice for black men to have much more than 1 partner and often being involved in extra-marital affairs. In her words "the only true black men are the christians".
Added to this experience, a black women prayed on a women's conference for forgiveness for African men who have failed the African women. Now, this may be a generalised statement, but it was a genuine prayer from a black women about the black men, at leat her experience of them.
This is obviously a sad reflection of the morality of most of our population. And can I dare say, that its becoming more and more a fact under the white population as well.
If we want our country, and especially the AIDS/MIV virus to be cured, we as South African men would have to stand up and be counted for our moral values re relationships with women.
I can only pray that we will take up our responsibility and pray for forgiveness.
